As a rule, custom Les Paul sold for between £ 2,000 ($ 3,000) and £ 8,600 ($ 13,000) on the official website of Gibson. In the world auctioned guitars, prices increase significantly.
Les Paul has earned a reputation as a guitar for rock, blues and reggae played by Slash, Bob Marley, The Who Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page, Peter Green, and many others.

Seems to have plenty of worthy provenance to me and the guy has every right to sell it after 40 years if he wishes ( who knows, maybe for a good cause) imo. Perhaps Gibson could buy it or a major museum. Les was sure willing to try different ideas!

I have an early 70s Columbus copy of the Les Paul. In black too. I'm not a good guitar player but love strumming on it. There's photos online of Jerry Garcia playing one c.1968. The black ones always look the best.

It really looks like a Les Paul Recording guitar, with the pickups and knob placement don't you think? I also heard one of Jimmy Page's LP's is in the same auction
