ZZ Top Cancel Tour After Bassist's Injury

ZZ Top

ZZ Top have called off the rest of their tour with Jeff Back, since the Texas trio's bassist, Dusty Hill, required immediate medical attention after slipping and falling on his hip while on the band's tour bus.

The cancellations begin with tonight's scheduled gig in Clarkston, Michigan, though Beck and his band will still perform the following three dates: August 29th at the Seneca Allegany Casino in Salamanca, New York; August 30th at the Concert Venue at Harrah's in Atlantic City, New Jersey; and August 31st at the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Tyler Bryant will open.
"While we are very disappointed to not continue this tour with ZZ Top, our thoughts and best wishes are for Dusty to have a speedy recovery," Beck said in a statement.
Ticket holders for the ZZ Top–Beck tour can receive a refund at the point of purchase. However, those with tickets for shows in Atlanta (9/6), St. Augustine, Florida (9/7), West Palm Beach, Florida (9/9), Tampa, Florida (9/10), Houston (9/12) and Thackerville, Oklahoma (9/13) should hold on to their stubs as these concerts may be rescheduled.
ZZ Top and Beck have both been on the road all summer, though they joined forces at the beginning of August. The rock staples have long admired each other's work – previously Beck and ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons played together at the 2009 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony – and fittingly, the rock acts closed out each show of this joint tour with a performance together.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone Beck – who is also working on a new album – spoke about going note-for-note with Gibbons and ZZ Top on their trek. "There's no one-upmanship with Billy," he said. "He's Billy and he's like a concrete statue. You don't mess with it. I just do little flights of fancy around him. His sound is as big as a house."
