A group of musicians and artists, including The Doors' Robby Krieger, R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe, Iggy Pop and Eurythmics' Dave Stewart, have designed custom Carparelli guitars to benefit War Child USA, an organization that helps children and young people living in areas of armed conflict.
The guitars will be auctioned at Bonhams in New York City on November 9 at 7 p.m. ET. Among the other luminaries who have contributed personally designed instruments to the auction are Cure guitarist Pearl Thompson, Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy, director Gus Van Sant and famed graphic artist Shepard Fairey.
Stipe's design is called "Radiant Guitar," which reflects his belief in the work done by War Child USA. "No person, and certainly no child, should have to endure what many of these children have lived through, and in some cases, still live in," he says in a statement. "I am honored to be able to make a small contribution towards helping them. Thank you War Child for that opportunity."
