The Sun said that Sam Smith quietly and peacefully settled a copyright dispute with Tom Petty on the similarity of the three-time Grammy Smith "Stay With Me" and Petty Full Moon Fever hit "I will not fail," co-written with a rating of Jeff Lynne. Representatives Smith confirmed that "Stay With Me" is now reissued Petty and Lynne, adding that while there is indisputable "similarities" between the two singles, it was "a complete coincidence.
"The representative of Smith added: "Although the resemblance was a complete coincidence, all involved have come to an immediate and global agreement in which Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne is currently credited as co-authors of" Stay With Me "with Sam Smith, James and William Napier Phillips ".
